Chapter 1, Page 35: Lightwings
Devere continues to ironically take any magic out of this situation.
First a quick announcement: There’s a chance updates might stop until January because Christmas break and all that. Haven’t decided if I’m going to try to make a Devil’s Trill page too, but regardless I might try to make some new art this month, so on the chance I do that, you can keep an eye on my site’s gallery (though if I end up making just like sketches it may not appear here), my BlueSky (I hang out here way more than at X/Twitter these days), Instagram, or my Cara page.
I was also thinking of uploading any new Knell fanarts I might receive as an update or two during my holiday downtime? I could do the same thing for The Devil’s Trill site as well. I might upload them all together sorta Webtoon-style if I get multiple. My email’s in the “Contact” section above *hint hint* or you can (a) me if you post it at BlueSky maybe. But if not then it’ll just be the usual silence this month.
I used to make fanart sections, but because I’m now uploading two whole new comics with big images to my site, I’m trying to conserve my space a little more. So if I post fanart here, it’ll just have to be once in a while in small doses, I probably couldn’t upload them all, but I will ALWAYS gush about them if you want to show me, through email or at social media sites where I’ll definitely reshare your fanart posts!! (Again though, I’m not very active at Xwitter anymore.)
Some experimenting was done with this page.-
1. The lineart has gone from aliased (very hard & pixelated) to anti-aliased (soft). While I’ve tried this style with standalone arts before, this is the first time EVER I tried it in a comic page. I avoided it for years because flatting colors was MUCH easier and faster with hard lines, but thanks to Clip Studio I now have a few tricks to make it quicker. (If flatting is slower, then it’s only by a little.) I’m not sure the softer lines are very noticeable, but it is on closeups. The large HD pages at Patreon (for $5 patrons) look nicer, I think! I’m hoping this’ll allow me to have lines with a more legit pen look and better line variation, and let me show off close shots of individual panels without being annoyed with the lineart. XP
2. Textures/noise that I usually slap over the entire page are now restricted to just the backgrounds and objects. Been sticking with doing this for a while now and yet I’m still not sure about it. Sometimes I thought the textures on the characters added something but other times it could also lower the quality of how they look. Very mixed feelings.
3. I tried a little more hard black shadows here but it’s another thing I’ve been flip-flopping on because I use so many dark colors already…
