At least he didn’t call him Billy.
Also was the camphruch detail really important for Knell to know, Devere? XD

And with that, here’s SOME LORE (lol): My camphruch is based on the Renaissance beast of the same name. They were described as the size of a stag, resided near water, speared fish with their horn, and had back feet that were webbed.

My version is an omnivore (actually I’m gonna say all unicorns in the setting are, though you may not see many others… if any) that eats plantlife, fish, and other very small creatures, but they don’t have webbed feet. I found that a bit unnecessary for something that has little reason to be in the water constantly and both deer and horses can swim fine with hooves. Instead I gave them reindeer-like feet for trudging through wetlands.

Also my camphruch is clearly much bigger, and probably doesn’t spear fish with that horn (maybe they trample or bite them instead?). It’s probably just for defense.

Hmm I need to make a lore page for this kind of info eventually.

Knell runs across the porch to get a better look at the unicorn Devere has brought near the cabin.
Knell: I can't believe it! It's a-
Devere: Camphruch.

Knell stops in her tracks, baffled.

She looks at Devere.
Knell: I-I thought it was a unicorn.

Devere looks at the alleged unicorn.
Devere: Yes, it's a unicorn, but a marsh camphruch specifically. Not as snooty as most forest unicorns but just as stubborn.
The unicorn angrily huffs at Devere.
Devere: You know it's true, Bill.

Knell gives Devere a huge smile.
Knell: "Bill"?!
Devere looks caught off guard.
Devere: Uh... y-yeah.
Knell: Haha why'd you call him that?!

Devere looks back at Bill and scratches his own face with his finger.
Devere: 'Cause... he reminded me of a billy goat.
Knell puts a hand to her mouth, unable to control her laughter.
Knell: Hahahehe
The unicorn turns his head a bit to side eye Knell, his ear twitching at her laughter.
Devere more quietly adds: It was just the first thing that came to mind.

Devere looks embarrassed, even blushing slightly.
Devere: ...Anyway, I thought you could ride him out of here.
