Knell

Devere’s blanking out (based on an absence seizure) was a side effect of using death magic, as was the grand mal-type seizure we saw him experience when he was a child in the flashback. It’s not the only issue he’s dealt with, but when he learned to better control his magic, they all became less severe and/or frequent.

I always liked the idea of magic affecting the mind and body in some way. Power that comes with consequences.

It probably seems like Gates and Devere are the only cemetery workers right now, but they aren’t, they often have help with the groundskeeping and gravedigging, but Devere still does that work as well regardless (Gates too, but less often because of his age).

Also Devere can actually halt further decomposition with his magic, but only temporarily, so embalming the regular way is still often required, unless the body doesn’t have much decay and their loved ones want a more natural burial/cremation.

A new section on Religion was added to the Lore page, if you want to read a whole lot of made up, rambly religious stuff. XD And with this comes with a change in terminology. I had the word for all magic users as “mages“, but after some pondering and opinions by people on BlueSky, I changed it to “mystic“, which I decided fit better thematically. I suppose I don’t know 100% if I’ll be sticking with this but it feels right at the moment. XP As far as I know, “mage” was only used once in the comic itself, in the previous page, which has now been edited.

Also, $2+ patrons got a HUGE lore post about magic in the world. This will eventually end up on this site too, but patrons get the first draft. I’d also like to make some art for that page first before posting it here, but we’ll see. x_x
